UPDATED DECEMBER 2019
If there’s one type of food I eat a lot of, it’s a burger. I love them and think I know what makes a good burger. While putting this list together I realised just how many burgers I’ve consumed over the last 2 years or so. I’ve been writing this post for nearly 2 years, if there’s one type of food that divides option it’s a Burger.
There are over 70 Halal Burger joints in London, (I’m not including your local PFC that does that 99p cheeseburger). So there is a lot of choices. I have been to around 25 in London in the last 3 years, so I think I can give a good insight into what’s worth checking out.

When it comes to burgers people have different taste and preferences. So it’s important to tell you mine as this does effect on the types of burgers I tend to lean towards. Also, one thing I noticed when putting my list of the best halal burgers in London together is my favourite ones have something in common…
– I like and prefer Burgers cooked on a flat top grill compared with a flame/charcoal grill. I find that burgers cooked on a flat top maintain the melted fat from the burger patty. They also have a juicer consistency as the juices kept within the burger, especially if a dome is used to steam cook the patty. I don’t like burgers that have a smoky flavour and the thicker charred layers – something you get from using a charcoal or flame. On a grill, the fat from the burger drips off, and I like when the burger cooks in that fat, there is a particular taste that I love, this way the exterior gets nice and crisp.
– I like burgers that have some sweetness to them, this flavour is normally from the use of caramelised onions and from melted fat.
– Simple burgers. I tend to order a classic cheeseburger, I’m not keen on trying gimmicky burgers, filled with extras that don’t work or loads of beef stacked together.
– Mild Cheese, I don’t like strong cheese that is overpowering.
– I always look for burgers that have 80% lean ground chuck beef and 20% percent fat. The leaner you get, the less juicy the burger will be. The fat also keeps the burger together
“On a grill, the fat from the burger drips off, and I like when the burger cooks in that fat. This way, the exterior gets nice and crisp“
Now let’s set out some basic rules for this list.
1. Burger must not exceed £10
There are a lot of burgers on the scene and many of them are packed with expensive cuts of meat or some other “chefy” gimmick. I think burgers over £10 is just too much, so keeping a cap makes it fairer as well, focusing on the quality and balance of ingredients. Just get a simple cheeseburger right, please.
2. I have to had eaten the burger at least twice
Consistency is key and very important with burgers, you can’t just get it right once, you have to maintain a standard.
There have been times where I have had a burger and it’s been bad, but on a second visit, there’s a total change in the taste and quality or vice versa. Therefore to get a better average I have tried to visit the places on my list at least twice a single visit won’t be included in the main entry.
3. Beef Burgers
For me, the King of the burger is the beef burger, it’s for sure the most popular. I also have tried to include a few lamb and chicken burgers. Lamb has a natural more flavoursome taste to the meat, it works well when the patty is mixed with some spices and cooked on a charcoal grill.
I don’t bother with a grilled chicken burger, I don’t think I have ever had one that I liked. When it comes to chicken burgers, I like it when they are juicy and made with chicken thigh and I like crispy spicy batter. There are not many places out there that do a decent fried chicken burger, but I have included a few of my picks for a chicken burger.
Jeez, why has this guy written so much waffle, I just came to check the list. Now let’s set out some basic rules for this list.

Cristina’s
“Double Smashed Burger”
Times I’ve had eaten this: 4
Method of cooking: Flat Grill
Price: £7 (lunchtime) or £11 at dinner with Chips.
This is my favourite burger in London. The team here have really developed this burger and it’s just getting better and better. The build is simple but the flavours from the beef are just so deep and fatty. Just so good. The burger is formed to 2 smashed beef patties that just have so much flavour.
Address: 8-10 North Street, Barking, IG11 8AW
Fat Boyz Diner
“The American”
Times I’ve had eaten this: 6
Method of cooking: Flat Grill
Price: £6
Single beef patty, American cheese, caramelised onions, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, mayo.
The first time I ate here it only had been open for a week and I thought it had potential, I spoke with the owners and offered a few suggestions. I went back a month later and there had definitely been improvements. I ordered the American, which is basically a cheeseburger and it only cost £5. The taste of the beef was really great and I loved the sweetness of the onions and the bun. A simple but really well-cooked burger. The beef was cooked on a flat plate grill so it kept the juices there and really enhanced the flavours, I ordered with without mustard.
Address: 3 Barking Rd, London E6 1PW

“The Big Cheese”
Times I’ve had eaten this: 2 Method of cooking: Flat Grill Price: £7.80
Over the weekend I went to check out @bandofburgersuk with their new location in Walthamstow, which was the former home to Brioche Burger one of the ex-elites in the game. Fair to say that Band of Burgers have picked up the Baton and are keeping the bar high.
Times I’ve had eaten this: 3 Method of cooking: Flat Grill Price: £6.95 Another place that improved over time, this burger as a 6oz Beef pattie, mustard & ketchup, caramelised onions, American cheese, gherkins, in a brioche bun. Really good flavours of beef – with similar tastes of a Halal Big Mac from McDonald’s, with better quality ingredients. Address: 706 Lea Bridge Rd, London E10 6AW
Times I’ve had eaten this: 4 Method of cooking: Flat Grill Price: £8.95 Everytime I have gone the burger is always great. 2 delicious beef patties, with caramelised onions, chilli jam, roasted chiles and sweet fluffy brioche buns. So many flavours combinations happening here and just look at that melted cheese. Address: 706 Lea Bridge Rd, London E10 6AW
Times I’ve had eaten this: 8 Method of cooking: Flat Grill Price: £7.49 Simple, messy, tasty and yummy. Never had a bad burger here. The buns are soft, sweet and squidgy, the oily fat that drips off the burger is was I crave. Although the beef patty might be on the small size, it makes that up with its taste. Every time I have had a burger here it’s just hit the spot. Address: 4 locations, I like 195 Baker St, Marylebone, London NW1 6UY The following don’t get into my top list, but are well worth trying out.
Times I’ve had eaten this: 1 Method of cooking: Flat Grill Price: £8.95 The Vintage Cheese Burger (£8.95). Now if you have never had a BigMac before this is what it tastes like. When I took my first bite it took me back to eating Big Macs (halal of course) so I liked this burger, simple in flavours, but tasted good. I have only had this once. Address: 76 Brick Ln, Shoreditch, London E1 6RL
Times I’ve had eaten this: 3 Method of cooking: Flat Grill Price: £7.49 This place suffered from inconsistency and poor burgers when it first opened and because of that the reputation was damaged – and the truth is when it first opened the burgers were not great. However, on my last 2 visits, I have had a really good burger. This place has improved the way it cooks its burgers. I get it with no mustard, or pickles and add cheese. Address: 10 Jamestown Rd, London NW1 7BY Times I’ve had eaten this: 4 Method of cooking: Flat Grill Price: £5.50 Although this scores high, it doesn’t enter in my top 5, mainly because of the size, it’s just too small! I work a few buildings down from this place and walk past it every day, in fact, I was one of the first-ever customers. The issue with this place is the size of the burger and the consistency factor, first of all, you can finish the burger off in less than 4 bites, it’s tasty but a single is not enough, at £5.50 in central London it’s not bad, however, it is a fast food burger, not a gourmet. Also, every time I have had this burger it tastes different, sometimes I get a lot of meaty burger taste and sometimes none but get a strong burger sauce taste. This place is made for Muslims, it’s like a pricey McDonalds – I have a few non Muslims friends that have tried the burger here and just laugh at the standard – But since we have limited choices it will have to do for us I guess. Still good for a quick bite, you can be in and out within 10 mins… my record is 6mins.
Times I’ve had eaten this: 5 Method of cooking: Flat Grill Price: £8.95 Once upon a time, Stax was the elite among the halal gourmet burgers in the Land, made with 28-day dry-aged Pedigreed Sussex Beef on an Organic buttery soft bun with Grilled Onion, Tomato, Lettuce, Mayo and your choice of cheese. But it really suffers from a decline in standards, quality and taste over the years. When they first came on to the scene the burgers were the talk of the town, nowadays the burgers suffer from consistency issues. Being honest, I always got the bringing home the bacon burger, but that pushes us over the £10 limit. With uncomfortable seating, it doesn’t make the best experience. Better off trying the sister restaurant Boondocks in Old Street. Times I’ve had eaten this: 2 Method of cooking: Flame Grill Price: £9 Address: Times I’ve had eaten this: 2 Method of cooking: Flame Grill Price: £8.85 Address: London Designer Outlet, Wembley Park, Wembley, HA9 0FD Times I’ve had eaten this: 2 Method of cooking: Hot Plate Price: £10 Address: Kerb Camden, West yard, Chalk Farm road. London, NW1 8AF. The Green Chilli Cheese, £9 – The best chicken burger out there! Chicken thigh Burger, £9 – very very good Chik’n STRAIGHT UP CHIK’N*Chicken Filet, Buttermilk & Herb Mayo, lettuce Pickle £5.95 Chicken Burger, £7.80 Address: 30 Woburn Pl, Bloomsbury, London WC1H 0JR So there you go list done! Only took me 2 years to finally write it. Here is a full list of places.
I checked out the new launch menu, featuring a selection of starters and burgers. First of all, a note has to be made with the quality of ingredients on offer. Beef used in burgers Is 35 days aged grass-fed Angus and Aged Wagyu as well. Only Organic products are used, no processed cheese here, they use fancy cheeses from Brough market working with Jumi cheese.
Unlike the other locations of band of burgers, this restaurant uses a flat grill to cook their burgers, It makes for a juicier, fatter and tastier experience.
I had pretty much tried all of the burgers on offer, my favourite were the big cheese and the Mexican. Great flavours, that melted fat taste that I love, soft sweet bun, a all-round good burger.

Hey so I’ve tried a few of your top 5 and I personally think you should make a trip to Leicester and try grizzlers. The burger I had there was exceptional ( if you haven’t been already ) everything you look for in a burger you’ll find there. Simple, delicious, best burger by far and the only one I’ve eaten where I haven’t felt like my stomachs exploding towards the end.
Hi I would love to hear your opinion on shake shack in London before I go lol.
YOU have to try Habaneros in Willesden, it is amazingly delicious, my favourite burgers are ‘Big Memphis BBQ’ and ‘Samurai’ which are both 6oz and come with chips and drink. Price is £6.99. Honestly, the chips are the best I’ve personally had, I usually eat chips just to get them out of the way, but here I really enjoy them as part of the meal.
Then there’s right next to it ‘Lezziz Gourmet Buger’ who always overload your burger, and it fills you up more than it should for it’s cheap price. The classic Beef burger is £5.99, comes with chips and drink. For a burger that cheap I always get full. Great taste but doesn’t beat Habaneros.
Then lastly, there’s ‘Master Kebab and Pizza’ in Harlesden. who have new management and they started doing Gourmet burgers. They are the most cheapest place to eat Gourmet Burgers which actually taste delicious. £5 for 6oz Burger chips and Drink. Honestly amazing for its price.
[…] like a McDonalds, granted, I don’t think its the quality of a burger that features in my top burger list, but people want something different. Is this a start of a new […]
Have you tried Amigos in Acton and Sheperds Bush? Their burgers are consistently good, and a meal costs around 7-8£. The sauces are banging as well as the chips. The whole meal is delicious.
Thank you for the useful share!
