London Pizza Depot

With lockdown 2 underway a lot of restaurants are open for take away and collection so I’ll be continuing finding some places to grab food from this month

You should definitely try pizzas from @londonpizzadepot a new pizza delivery and takeaway that fully halal. The pizzas here were of excellent quality and felt like it’s on par with major high street brands like Domino’s. Located near Newbury Park/Seven Kings area

I tried 3 pizzas, but they also do a half and half. I ordered Chicken Tinga, Peri Peri Pow Pow, American hot and a margarita. My favourite was easily the Spicy Chicken Tinga, the ingredients felt like good quality and the flavours were great. Very fresh tasting pizzas

Check @londonpizzadepot for delivery range and full menu. I recommend the pizzas 🍕 from here and I’m sure I’ll be ordering again!

MENTION “HALALFOODGUY” AND GET 25% YOUR ORDER VIA CALLING ONLY, DELIVERY OR COLLECTION. Offer can’t be used with existing promotions. Pizzas were complimentary. Thoughts my own

Rasa Sayang

This was one of the last places I ate in in 2020, before the 3rd major lockdown and it was one of my best meals of the year!

Eating something delicious makes me happy and this absolutely amazing beef rendang from @rasasayang_london in soho brought the biggest smile to my face and was one of my favourite things I’ve eaten in a long time

Having spent over 2 months travelling around Malaysia and Indonesia this year, I ate my fair share of beef rendangs (which is my favourite single dish) , but this one was incredible. The smell, the flavour, the tenderness of the beef all just perfect 👌 £9.90 with rice. Having made this myself a few times I know the skill and practice it takes to make it perfect and this was perfect – which means it gets a very rare 10 from me!

Rasa Sayang have been in Chinatown for years and current situated at a temporary (but lovely) location in soho

This is the first place I’m gonna hit up after lockdown. They have so many other things on the available including a new BBQ menu that I can’t wait to try

Watani Box

Here’s another new local delivery food service @watanibox that serve up traditional Afghani cuisine. Each box costs £10 and it arrived super fresh as if it was just cooked.

The box consisted of 4 separate items, a very flavoursome chapli beef kebab, dumplings with a tasty beef filling, a kidney bean curry (lubia) and delicate Afghani rice (Kabuli palow) with very soft and tender lamb. The rice was cooked perfectly, but did have a lot of unwanted raisins and whilst lacking in flavour the lamb was ridiculously soft and tender.

Individually the items were good, however, they didn’t work well together for me and really felt like 4 separate items that had nothing that brought them together. Nevertheless, I believe the food was still cooked well and tasted good. For the price which includes delivery, it’s worth a try to see for yourself. It also served with some chips and a small piece of naan, as well as a very well made chutney

As always, I give honest thoughts and opinions. The food was complimentary. Check out their profile for more info and to order

Halal McDonalds Style Burgers (updated 2021)

2

Up until recently, If you wanted to have the taste of a Halal McDonald’s you would have to travel to a Muslim country like Egypt, Turkey or UAE to fulfil that craving. I remember when I went to Dubai I brought back 5 cheeseburgers for my family and everyone was so happy. It’s strange how these little £1 burgers can bring so much joy.

Anyway, there’s no longer any more reason to travel 1000 miles because there’s been an explosion of Halal Burger Joints that offer burgers that tastes identical to a McDonald’s cheeseburger or Big Mac.

Here’s a list of places where you can find halal McDonald’s like burgers in no particular order.

The original and first restaurant in London to introduce Halal McDonald’s style burgers. I still remember when I first blogged about this place, the hype was crazy, do crazy that Bims had to shut down for 2 weeks to re-fit their kitchen to cope with demand!

6 High St, Walthamstow, London E17 7LD

CHICO’S Flame Grilled Chicken

From one of the owners of Fat Boyz comes Chicos (a restaurant that my wife named!). Although a little more expensive than other places that do the same McDonalds burgers

The cafe has just introduced a range of McDonald’s style burgers to their new Menu. Tastes just like a proper McDonald’s burger!

Although the burgers here are not 100% the same as a McDonald’s burger they are very close and make it their own style, rather than imitating McDonald’s.

Halal Food Stalls in Camden Market

5

I’m writing this post during the middle of Lockdown 2 in England and this Lockdown is going really slow and with very little open I wanted to feel a sense of normality in life. I heard from a friend that Camden Market was pretty munch running as business as usual, that’s mainly because Food venders are allowed to remain open for takeaway and collection, so that means every food stall was open.

This was great for me as I just wanted to leave the house, with my mask and hand sanitizer in hand and experience a normal day!

Camden Market has loads of food stalls and what is great is many of them offer halal options or are fully halal as well, with no pork on the menu.

During my little trip through the market, I took a photo of every food stall that had halal options available.

New Halal Breakfast in Leytonstone, East London @coffeegardenn . I’m born and raised in Leytonstone and when I came across a newly opened spot that does a Halal Breakfasts I thought I’d check it out.

The restaurant/cafe is clean, modern, and has a great menu of fresh food and drinks available. There’s a selection of the classics for breakfast, Full English, Eggs Benedict, Royale, and Florentine. As well as a range of Italian pasta like Lasagna and some Turkish breakfasts, ( I think its a Turkish run place)

I started my breakfast with some freshly make juices, I went for an Apple and Strawbery. I also ordered Full Halal English Breakfast (prices and menu on the last slide), Avocado Breakfast (changed to fried eggs), Eggs Florentine, and a Lasanga.

The Full English £7.40, was very good, well presented, it felt quite premium and the sausages actually tasted of meat, and no cheap bread for the toast here either.

Eggs Florentine, (that’s the one with Spinach, I was gonna go for salmon or meat, but felt like veg), it was okay, needs a little improvement, the muffin was toasted a bit too much, so it was hard to cut and the Hollandaise sauce wasn’t thick or buttery enough for me.

The Lasagna for me was very classic, meaning if you like your hard-hitting flavors this wasn’t the one, this one needed some chili sauce! But that’s a personal preference.

Oh, I was given some desserts to try but I was too stuffed to try them! But they looked good!

It’s a great spot to “Work from home” during the week if you are local, there are 2 spaces, cafe seating in the front or a more chilled out area in the indoor garden at the rear. For parking, during the week, I would recommend parking in the B&M car park which is not far. UPDATE 2/10/20 The cafe is NOW OPEN 7 days a week!

I enjoyed it here, the service was good, the food was good, the place clean and modern. Great spot for Saturday Breakfast!

Check out this awesome authentic Mexican 🇲🇽 Restaurant that has a full halal food menu!

Keep reading to find out how you can yet 15% discount!

@mexicassa337 is a lovely restaurant located in Stratford that has been open for about a year, filling a gap for Halal Mexican restaurants available, furthermore, this place is proper Mexican, not Tex-Mex, oh and everything on the food menu is halal!

I ordered a lot of food (more than I’d could eat in one sitting) without realising the large portions of some dishes. I have to say, I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. It really has a place that feels like it’s made for locals who like good food and fun times.

So, let’s have a look at what I ordered. First of all, the menu has loads of items and a lot of things were unknown to me, lucky I got some help from the service team who helped me out. Shared TOTOPOS (NACHOS), Hand-cut crispy fried corn tortillas chips served with melted cheese, Avo-cream, Frijoles, tomatillo, street salad, crispy onion, coriander & jalapeños. Yeah, that’s a lot of stuff, the base price is £7.00 but you can pick extras, I went for slow-cooked beef for an additional £2.90. This could feed 4 people easy.

Tacos 🌮 next! I used to work in Los Angeles 10 years ago and remember having some awesome shrimp tacos there which were great. So I went for some Chipotle & garlic shrimps 🦐 tacos hoping they would bring back good memories.. They didn’t disappoint! These were great! You can pick 2 flour/corn/gluten-free wraps or corn tortillas (soft or crispy shell), served with tomatillo salsa, onion, cilantro with Avo-cream and chipotle cream. £6.35 Also got the Baked sweet potato with feta cheese, this was also delicious £7.25

Beef QUESADILLAS next, 3 soft tortillas stuffed with melted cheese, folded & slowly cooked. £7.95

Also got some beef fajitas, Sizzling spiced strips of grilled beef with roasted peppers it came with a plate of tomato & onion, lettuce, Avo-cream, pico de gallo, cheese, so you can build your own fajita. Another nice dish. The beef was slightly overcooked, but that’s because I spent too long taking pics whilst the steak was still cooking on the plate!

Also got some chicken wings, but these were my least favourite item. I think they gave me a sample of sauces and didn’t serve it how they normally would.

To some up, the food here was great. Food made with love and loads of flavour. I recommend going in a group of people (business meetings are permitted) or will make a nice casual date night.

Drinks were also nice, not your typical Mocktails worth trying for sure.

MexiCasa are offering 15% off your Bill – Just mention @halalfoodguy when booking.

Saffron Alley

I got sent a box of steaks from @saffron_alley a new company that delivers quality halal steaks and meats right to your door.

I received a box delivered in a chill box of rib eye, filet and sirloin steaks, which were thick-cut steaks grass-fed, free-range and wet-aged. They source their meat from different parts of the world. ⁣

My favourite was the Rib Eye steak. I was interested in finding out more about how cows are reared and raised and were told that Hereford Suckler cattle breed is known for its rich beefy flavour, and Suckler cattle means the young feed off mother’s milk for a full year, normally calves are given baby formula and fed grain to fatten them up.⁣

Steaks were very good, but the rib eye stood out for its deep flavour and thick-cut.
⁣It worked out at around £10 per steak which is good value when you compare it to a restaurant, this would easily cost £25 in a restaurant.

⁣Pictures are 2 Ribeye steaks, 1 filet and one sirloin cooked with vegetables.⁣
⁣Thank you @saffron_alley for sending me this meat comma. Be sure to check them out for some quality steaks at a good price. ⁣

The BBQ Co.

During Lockdown Eid of 2020, I was delivered an epic meal platter from @thebbq.co swipe to the last picture for the full menu details. A food delivery service and you can also hire them for private parties and functions.

The feast featured this showstopper of a whole lamb leg, which was smoked then cooked on the BBQ. It’s served with roast vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, rice and gravy. It also comes with 2 bottles of homemade mojito and 3 desserts. The lamb was full of flavour and very tender

I also was given lamb chops, lamb ribs and lamb burgers. All of which were very good. Also, the desserts, which included my favourite milk cake was very good

The platter was enough for 6 to 8 and costs £75, so around £10 pp. Which is decent. It did cost more, but my feedback was to lower the price point and they took my feedback on board

Recommended if you are having a weekend get together with family. Oh, if you mention @halalfoodguy when you order you get an extra bottle of Mojito. I was gifted this meal. Thoughts and words my own.

Cheesesteak sandwich, wings, chops and chips In good munch in a box from @backyardbbqz 2 lads that have set up their own BBQ business available for collection in Ilford. I was very impressed with the cheese steak, loaded with gooey cheese and sauce and tastey beef. Definitely worth checking out if you are local to the area.
