RockIT Steak (Closed)

-

Date of Visit: 28 February 2018 (it was cold and very snowy)

A new steakhouse in East London, no don’t roll your eyes, this one is actually a little different and also… Pretty good.

RockIT steak located near Aldgate is a new steakhouse where you can cook your own steak too, however, you like at your own table on a 400 degree hot stone. The concept of cooking your own steak is not anything new and in all honesty, I’ve never considering cooking your own steak something I liked, I’ve been to places that have this method of serving up steak and I’ve always found it to be a letdown. I like my steak cooked for me and then rested to allow the natural fats and juices to rest on the place, which enhances flavour and taste. So was expecting to be disappointed… But I was wrong and pleasantly surprised.

The venue is large and spacious with loads of seating. The menu offers a great deal of choice.

Drinks and Starters

We started the night we a couple of drinks and a seafood platter. This was ordered for me and not something I would have ordered, as I didn’t think it paired well with the rest of the food to come.

We also tried the Brie cheese wedges, really good! Deep fried Brie in breadcrumbs

Brie Wedges

Also got a side of mushroom, normally I don’t even mention the sides, but really liked this dish. Cooked really well and tasted great, mushrooms in butter, simple but yum!

Mains

For my main meal, I decided not to be brave and try the massive tomahawk steak and keep it simples with the ribeye and T-bone steak. All steaks are grass-fed and organic, which just shows another step in quality. It’s not easy to find places that supply high-grade steak at such a good price.

After cooking my steak to a medium rare I allowed it to rest in my plate for a few mins before tucking in. I was happy to find that the steak was of good quality and had loads of flavour. I’ll give myself a pat on the back and say it was down to my cooking. Based on previous experience, I was expecting it to be dry and chewy but it wasn’t. I really enjoyed the food.

I spoke with the larger than life and full of energy owner Sonny who really explained his vision, his focus on food quality and customer experience.

To sum up, I really enjoyed my experience here, I thought cooking your own steak would be a bit gimmicky as it has been on previous experiences at other places but the large open space and quality meat made it be a good experience and one that I recommend on trying with friends or family.

Dessert

Sticky Toffee Pudding and Chocolate Fudge Cake. These were really nice, no complaints here.

This place is good for groups of friends, families or anyone really. Cooking. You own steak may be slightly a novelty, but it does make going out for dinner a more interactive experiment. All the food is halal and certified.

The service was good, but I not able to give a fair assessment as the owner was dining with me for most of the meal, so It’s not like the service would ever be bad when the Boss is with you!

I was invited to visit and my meal was complimentary.

  1. Very difficult to take a good blogger’s judgement as the food and service will be top notch for you! Can normal customers expect the same too?
Maybe sometimes it might be a good idea of you go as a normal customer and then leaving a review…
