Desi Eats

Last week I was sent a sample of freshly made chilled meals from the new home delivery brand @ilovedesieats who are part of the famous and popular restaurant @royalnawaablondon. Because of this page, I’m lucky that I get sent a lot of food to try, it’s not always on point. But this food was definitely delicious!

Really enjoyed the level of quality from the taste of the food to the packing and delivery of the meals. Lamb Biryani was my favourite, its like when your mum makes the good stuff on eid, tender delicious lamb, fragrant rice and it had my favourite apricots for sweetness

This is a great service if you want to send a love one meals that can’t get good food delivered due to where they live.. Because they deliver nationwide within 24 hours which is brilliant particularly for people that live in the sticks. You can use the code VD10 for a discount on your order. Recommended. Food was sent to me to review. Thoughts always honest, always my own.

Cafe 621

@cafe_621 is a new place that serves up really impressive and tasty Lebanese food

I was sent some food to review, Here’s what I got
Lamb Shawarma Box £7
Chicken Shawarma Box £7
Lamb Shawarma Wrap £5.50
Nutella Waffle £4.50

As well as some baba ganoush, hummus, tabbouleh salad, mix mezze and chilli sauce

Its been a while since I’ve had a food delivery to review where every single item I received was excellent, from the mains to the chilli sauce everything was very tasty, fresh and authentic

Really good Lebanese food in East London. The lamb and the chicken used shawarma was good quality and the flavours well balanced, the addition of their chilli sauces made everything taste better. The boxes include chips and salad, or you can opt for a shawarma wrap, but I do recommend adding chilli sauce to it as I personally needed it to take it up another level

I really enjoyed the sides like bata hara, baba ganoush and the tabbouleh was delicious

Overall, if you are in the delivery area then 💯 recommend that you order some food from @cafe_621. I loved everything I ate. Food is available for collection or via the popular delivery platforms, @ubereats_uk @deliveroo or @justeatuk

All food halal. I was #gifted this food and gave a honest opinion.

Dasterkhwan by Amal

One of the more positive things that have come out of lockdown is the birth of home cooks starting collection and delivery business. I was asked to give a honest review and was gifted this meal

This lovely spread ls from @dasterkhwanbyamal based in Dagenham who serve up really tasty and authentic Indian food

The here was delicious, it had that homecooked care and attention whilst being very tasty

Lamb biryani £8
Chicken highway chicken karahi £7
Khatey baigan £6
Bihari kabab £6
Kheer £3.50

I love me a biryani and this one was great, it had aamazinf aroma and was full flavours of flavour. Surprisingly, one of my favourites was the Baigan, which is a baby aubergine dish, the texture was melt in the mouth and packed of spice and flavour, it also was quite 🔥 hot as well, but I am a lightweight when it comes to 🌶

Dessert was a very large portion of Pistachio and Rose Rice pudding. This was absolutely brilliant and lovely end for a meal. It felt like having really good professional wedding food!

I’ll definitely be ordering again, portions are generous and fed 3 people (me 3 times 😂)

Bạn Bè

Hands up for some Yummy halal Vietnamese food! I was actually in Vietnam at the beginning of the year and was lucky enough to experience some tasty Halal food. I was happy to eat some food back in London that brought back those yummy food memories

@banbeldn is a new delivery (via @deliveroo ) service that serves up really authentic and tasty food, currently operating around the Stratford area (E15+E20)

Here’s was I tried, rib eye beef Pho, corn fed chick Pho and some rolls, winter, spring and summer. The Pho (its pronounced “fur” ) was full of flavour that developed in-depth as I ate it. The broth was clearly made with love, it smelted great, with a star anise aromatics but wasn’t overpowered with spice. The addition of chillies added some welcomed heat and overall I really enjoyed each surlp. The phos comes with rice noodles, bean sprouts, chillies, herbs and other ingredients on the side for you to mix into your ‘soup’. My past experience with Phos I’ve eaten tend to have just one level of flavour and gets boring after a while, but this one the flavours increased in intensity over time

The rib eye and corn fed chicken added texture but not much flavour as it cooked separately and added how you like. The meat is halal and purchased from a local halal butcher

The meal delivery also came with some really delicious spring rolls. I remember doing a cooking class in Vietnam and we made some rolls.. These were certainly better than the ones I made! The spring rolls are deep fried and filled with chicken and prawns but it was the Vietnamise herbs that brought a new flavour to these rolls. The summer rolls are made with rice paper, prawns and fresh herbs which had a crunch and freshness

Overall, it was great to try something different from the usual and finding halal Vietnamese food is pretty rare in London. Check @Banbeldn for more information and prices, the phos are £10 on deliveroo but there’s discounts for collection. Also, there’s no pork in the kitchen and everything is halal! #gifted

London Pizza Depot

With lockdown 2 underway a lot of restaurants are open for take away and collection so I’ll be continuing finding some places to grab food from this month

You should definitely try pizzas from @londonpizzadepot a new pizza delivery and takeaway that fully halal. The pizzas here were of excellent quality and felt like it’s on par with major high street brands like Domino’s. Located near Newbury Park/Seven Kings area

I tried 3 pizzas, but they also do a half and half. I ordered Chicken Tinga, Peri Peri Pow Pow, American hot and a margarita. My favourite was easily the Spicy Chicken Tinga, the ingredients felt like good quality and the flavours were great. Very fresh tasting pizzas

Check @londonpizzadepot for delivery range and full menu. I recommend the pizzas 🍕 from here and I’m sure I’ll be ordering again!

MENTION “HALALFOODGUY” AND GET 25% YOUR ORDER VIA CALLING ONLY, DELIVERY OR COLLECTION. Offer can’t be used with existing promotions. Pizzas were complimentary. Thoughts my own

Rasa Sayang

This was one of the last places I ate in in 2020, before the 3rd major lockdown and it was one of my best meals of the year!

Eating something delicious makes me happy and this absolutely amazing beef rendang from @rasasayang_london in soho brought the biggest smile to my face and was one of my favourite things I’ve eaten in a long time

Having spent over 2 months travelling around Malaysia and Indonesia this year, I ate my fair share of beef rendangs (which is my favourite single dish) , but this one was incredible. The smell, the flavour, the tenderness of the beef all just perfect 👌 £9.90 with rice. Having made this myself a few times I know the skill and practice it takes to make it perfect and this was perfect – which means it gets a very rare 10 from me!

Rasa Sayang have been in Chinatown for years and current situated at a temporary (but lovely) location in soho

This is the first place I’m gonna hit up after lockdown. They have so many other things on the available including a new BBQ menu that I can’t wait to try

Watani Box

Here’s another new local delivery food service @watanibox that serve up traditional Afghani cuisine. Each box costs £10 and it arrived super fresh as if it was just cooked.

The box consisted of 4 separate items, a very flavoursome chapli beef kebab, dumplings with a tasty beef filling, a kidney bean curry (lubia) and delicate Afghani rice (Kabuli palow) with very soft and tender lamb. The rice was cooked perfectly, but did have a lot of unwanted raisins and whilst lacking in flavour the lamb was ridiculously soft and tender.

Individually the items were good, however, they didn’t work well together for me and really felt like 4 separate items that had nothing that brought them together. Nevertheless, I believe the food was still cooked well and tasted good. For the price which includes delivery, it’s worth a try to see for yourself. It also served with some chips and a small piece of naan, as well as a very well made chutney

As always, I give honest thoughts and opinions. The food was complimentary. Check out their profile for more info and to order

Halal McDonalds Style Burgers (updated 2021)

2

Up until recently, If you wanted to have the taste of a Halal McDonald’s you would have to travel to a Muslim country like Egypt, Turkey or UAE to fulfil that craving. I remember when I went to Dubai I brought back 5 cheeseburgers for my family and everyone was so happy. It’s strange how these little £1 burgers can bring so much joy.

Anyway, there’s no longer any more reason to travel 1000 miles because there’s been an explosion of Halal Burger Joints that offer burgers that tastes identical to a McDonald’s cheeseburger or Big Mac.

Here’s a list of places where you can find halal McDonald’s like burgers in no particular order.

Halal Food Stalls in Camden Market

5

I’m writing this post during the middle of Lockdown 2 in England and this Lockdown is going really slow and with very little open I wanted to feel a sense of normality in life. I heard from a friend that Camden Market was pretty munch running as business as usual, that’s mainly because Food venders are allowed to remain open for takeaway and collection, so that means every food stall was open.

This was great for me as I just wanted to leave the house, with my mask and hand sanitizer in hand and experience a normal day!

Camden Market has loads of food stalls and what is great is many of them offer halal options or are fully halal as well, with no pork on the menu.

During my little trip through the market, I took a photo of every food stall that had halal options available.

New Halal Breakfast in Leytonstone, East London @coffeegardenn . I’m born and raised in Leytonstone and when I came across a newly opened spot that does a Halal Breakfasts I thought I’d check it out.

The restaurant/cafe is clean, modern, and has a great menu of fresh food and drinks available. There’s a selection of the classics for breakfast, Full English, Eggs Benedict, Royale, and Florentine. As well as a range of Italian pasta like Lasagna and some Turkish breakfasts, ( I think its a Turkish run place)

I started my breakfast with some freshly make juices, I went for an Apple and Strawbery. I also ordered Full Halal English Breakfast (prices and menu on the last slide), Avocado Breakfast (changed to fried eggs), Eggs Florentine, and a Lasanga.

The Full English £7.40, was very good, well presented, it felt quite premium and the sausages actually tasted of meat, and no cheap bread for the toast here either.

Eggs Florentine, (that’s the one with Spinach, I was gonna go for salmon or meat, but felt like veg), it was okay, needs a little improvement, the muffin was toasted a bit too much, so it was hard to cut and the Hollandaise sauce wasn’t thick or buttery enough for me.

The Lasagna for me was very classic, meaning if you like your hard-hitting flavors this wasn’t the one, this one needed some chili sauce! But that’s a personal preference.

Oh, I was given some desserts to try but I was too stuffed to try them! But they looked good!

It’s a great spot to “Work from home” during the week if you are local, there are 2 spaces, cafe seating in the front or a more chilled out area in the indoor garden at the rear. For parking, during the week, I would recommend parking in the B&M car park which is not far. UPDATE 2/10/20 The cafe is NOW OPEN 7 days a week!

I enjoyed it here, the service was good, the food was good, the place clean and modern. Great spot for Saturday Breakfast!
