Finally, there’s a fully halal hotpot spot that’s just opened up, and it’s brilliant as well as great value. This is Muku Hotpot, located in Walthamstow.
Unlike other “halal” hotpot places, this one is fully halal. No alcohol and, importantly, no pork on the menu. The meat is also sourced from HMC-certified suppliers.
£27.99 gets you hotpot, a drink, and unlimited extras per person.

I visited and had a great time. You get your own individual hotpot and can choose your spice level, I went for medium. The broth isn’t just water and chillies like some other places. It’s a proper bone broth with a rich, deep flavour.
You’re served a selection of thinly sliced beef, lamb, chicken breast and sea bass at the table. You also have access to a fridge where you can help yourself to prawns, fish balls and a wide range of vegetables to cook in your broth.
Aromatics and sauces are served at your table to enhance the flavour of your bowl, and the flavours developed throughout the meal, getting even better as time went on.
I was amazed that I could dip a piece of raw chicken into the hotpot, have it cook in just 20 seconds, and still taste incredible from soaking up all that flavour.
A great spot that I fully recommend, perfect for any occasion. The owners are Uyghur and also run the popular Etles restaurant just across the road.
