This might genuinely be one of the worst meals I’ve had in all my years of food blogging.
I visited Crazy Cow Steakhouse in Barking on a Sunday with my wife and my four year old. We walked in and the restaurant was completely empty. I always try to go in with an open mind, but it’s hard not to notice.
We originally ordered from the main menu, then realised they had Sunday roasts available. The strange thing was that nobody mentioned it to us, especially on a Sunday, so we cancelled and switched over.
Here’s what I ordered:
- Lamb Shoulder Roast – £15
- Beef Brisket Roast – £15

The menu said the roast came with a large Yorkshire pudding, but instead it arrived with two frozen-style ready made Yorkshires which honestly weren’t great.
But the real issue was the lamb. Visually it just didn’t look right. It was grey in colour, covered in sauce and not very appetising at all. After one bite I knew this wasn’t for me. The flavour, texture and overall taste reminded me of one of those frozen microwave Sunday roasts from the supermarket freezer section. It genuinely tasted old and stale to me.
It’s been YEARS since I’ve spat food out, but after one bite I had to. My wife tried it as well and had the same reaction.
The peas and carrots were fine, and the roast potatoes were actually decent, probably the best thing on the plate.
Credit to the staff though, because once I explained the issue they dealt with it straight away and swapped it for the brisket. And this is where things got confusing.

The brisket was actually really good. Soft, juicy and full of flavour. The quality difference between the two dishes honestly felt night and day. It genuinely made me wonder if the brisket was being brought in from elsewhere or supplied separately, because it tasted like it came from a completely different kitchen. That’s obviously just my opinion, but the contrast was huge.
The portion size wasn’t massive for £15 and I’ve definitely had better elsewhere, but the brisket itself was enjoyable. Sadly, by the time mine arrived my wife had already finished eating, so we ended up eating separately.
I always try to keep reviews balanced and fair, and the staff handled the issue well. But would I come back? No. Unfortunately this one just wasn’t for me.
