Wazir Restaurant & Charcoal Grill

Quite Bite Review.

A very large Turkish kebab and grill restaurant on Cranbrook Road, Ilford. Inside there’s a very canteen budget feel to the place, loud, busy and spacious. As almost customery we were given, warm fresh bread and salad on the table. The chilli sauce was pretty good.

Pictured is the £49 special. Loads of meats and chicken on the platform as well as the choice of 4 starters. When the plate arrived at the table it’s a sight that any meat lover will be impress by, loads of different types of stuff on show.

But sadly, that joy of the sight of the epic platter that was in front of me so only vanished as I started. But that’s all I positive things I can say about this mixed grill. Pretty much everything was bland and tasteless. I wasn’t that impressed. Yes there was a lot on the plate but nothing apart from the chicken wings really stood out. The chicken shish was undercooked, with some pieces still raw and near pink inside, and having a heavily pregnant woman in the group meant that this poses a danger for her.

The lamb chops where tender and juicy, but lacked any flavour, i found myself constantly asking for extra chilli sauce as without any, the food was pretty bland and tasteslees. Good grilled food comes from slow cooking meat, allowing even distribution of heat to the meats. Whacking meat on a hot charcoal grill seems to just cook the outside and not the insides, leaving It juicy, but undercooked.
The decor and atmosphere was similar to a canteen, very big and loud, not the ideal place for a family meal. The restaurant is big and great for super large groups, i’m guessing it can cover 200. But the large area just makes it feel cheap, less intimate and personal.

Service, was rather average. They seem to suffer from being understaffed and not enough waiting staff to go around, I found it difficult to get the attention of the staff as they were not the most attentive.

Also, they have a no tap water policy.

As for value, i fed my family of 6 for 60 so that’s pretty good, but its what you expect from Large mix Grill. But a place is cheap it doesn’t make it better if food, environment and service is not up to standard
