Considered the king of Malaysian restaurants, Roti King is a small, and I mean very small family run style restaurant in Euston. It holds around 30 covers at best, but its known for its value and top quality food.
I love Malaysian food, it’s one of my favourite types of cuisine and coming here was on my list for a long time, but it was hard to find a friend to come with me as the venue, well is pretty dingy.
I headed here on a Tuesday night thinking in my wisdom that it wouldn’t be that busy at 7pm, well I was wrong. There was a queue and a wait of around 20mins with not much of a welcome, the place is so small there is just one member of waiting staff. But to be fair, there was hardly any space to move at the door.
After browsing the menu that featured a good selection of dishes I went for my standard beef rendang for main and for starters Roti Cani with daal gravy
Roti Cani is not too dissimilar than a Paratha , it is made fresh when when you walk in and pretty much a must have when eating here.
My beef rendang was very good, it was not as dry as I was expecting, it had good deep flavours and the meat was soft and tender, served in a not so thick sauce.
The venue is small and very no thrills, it’s better to say this is more of a cafe than a restaurant environment, but the food is a good high quality standard.
Like my Spicy basil for Thai, this place is about Food and value, the ambience is not existent. However, the service was better than expected, despite being the only staff on the floor, our waitress managed to give us a personal experience and help my very indecisive friend some advice on what to order without looking flustered.
Cheap and cheerful
